CFE-CGC: A Special Edition for a Special Anniversary
Our member organisation in France, CFE-CGC – Confédération française de l’encadrement – Confédération générale des cadres, celebrates its 80th anniversary.
This historic milestone is highlighted in a special edition of the 25th issue of the organisation’s official magazine.
This publication, a comprehensive reflection on the organisation’s legacy and vision for the future, is not just a celebration but a reaffirmation of CFE-CGC’s commitment to advocacy, innovation, and the professional values that have guided it for eight decades.
The magazine offers a deep dive into French leaders’ history, highlighting its foundational moments and evolution as a unique voice for managers in France and as a powerful tool for the European Union’s social dialogue.
As an essential member of CEC European Managers, CFE-CGC has been crucial in influencing the managerial perspective across Europe.
Eight Decades of Social Rights and Progress
CFE-CGC was founded in October 1944 in Paris. It currently represents over 170,000 members, and this special issue of its magazine encapsulates the essence of CFE-CGC’s journey, blending historical retrospectives with forward-looking insights.
The pages recount pivotal moments in French and European labour history, groundbreaking negotiations, and the organisation’s unique ability to navigate complex socio-economic landscapes.
In France, trust in trade unions has risen from 36% in 2022 to 42% in 2024
Readers are offered a rare glimpse into the lives of the people who have shaped CFE-CGC, from grassroots activists to its current leadership trio, including President François Hommeril.
Some of the main challenges managers face in France include the fact that although 6 out of 10 cadres received pay raises in 2024, the gender pay gaps persist at 12%. Also, stronger policies against workplace sexual violence are needed, as 30% of women have faced harassment in the workplace.
Women retirees’ pensions are 38% lower than men’s (average €1,268 vs. €2,050), though the gap is closing (50% in 2004).
A European Perspective
As a member of CEC European Managers, CFE-CGC’s magazine underscores its commitment to a unified European labour framework.
Among the many common goals shared between our French colleagues is the commitment to increase employee social trust and reputation. For instance, in France, trust in trade unions has risen from 36% in 2022 to 42% in 2024. This increase goes hand in hand with managerial participation in telework. Managers represented 61% of teleworkers in 2023, up from 45% in 2021.
This magazine is not just an homage to the past—it’s a call to action and a bold statement about the potential of collective leadership action, shared values, and the enduring power of social dialogue advocacy.
